Friends: School and Classroom Events

  • Back-to-School Nights: September-October

PCS has two Back-to-School nights, one for parents of K-4 students, and the other for 5-8 parents. Here parents meet the teachers and find out what their children will learn throughout the year. Friends of PCS provide refreshments.

  • School Photo Day: September

Parent volunteers replace teachers from 7:30 to 7:50 while the teachers have their photographs taken. Additional parent volunteers are needed throughout the day to help organize the students.

  • Fall Family Picnic: September 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Friends of PCS runs this fun family event that everyone tries to attend. While the main course is provided (for example, hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers), every family brings a side dish, salad, or dessert to share. Volunteers do all the ordering, preparation, and organization.

  • Rummage Sale: October

Clean out your attic and help raise funds for PCS. This year’s Rummage Sale will be help October 10th, rain or shine.

  • Field Day: October

The students split into teams and compete in a series of fun outdoor events all morning. There is plenty of opportunity for parent volunteers to come join the fun while they supervise the action. All students must wear sneakers and socks.

  • Book Fair: December

Do you want to foster your children's love of reading, raise funds for PCS and help stock PCS class libraries – all at once? Then come help out at the PCS Book Fair! Parent volunteers are needed, especially to help grades K-4 when they visit the Book Fair during school.

  • Holiday Parties

To celebrate certain holidays, room parents organize grade-level parties for the students. The children enjoy the break in pace and the delicious goodies parents provide. We prefer treats that have nutritional value such as: apples, fruit kebobs, cheese and crackers, veggies, muffins, and home-baked cakes and cookies.

  • Fun in February

Friends sponsors a variety of fun events for the students to brighten up the short daylight hours of February.

  • Faculty & Staff Appreciation Lunch: February

To thank our wonderful teachers for their hard work during the year, Friends elegantly transforms the Marcee Center into an inviting retreat. Parent volunteers prepare specialty dishes for the teachers and staff to enjoy.

  • Annual Spring Benefit : Auction

Every spring, Friends of PCS holds a fabulous benefit event that is a major fundraiser for the school.

  • Spring Musical

Every spring the students in grades 7 and 8 perform a musical. Friends help with supervision and refreshments. For many years we have been able to offer a CD or DVD recording that students cherish.

  • New Family Social: June

An ice cream social or family dinner for the students and families in grades that will add a new class of entering students. This informal event helps the students entering kindergarten and grade 3 become acquainted.

  • Spring Recital

Students in grades 1-4 and 5-8 who study a musical instrument are invited to perform in one of the annual spring recitals. Individual performances are under four minutes in length so that a greater number of students may play.

  • Annual Art Show & Spring Picnic

The annual art show is an evening celebration of the arts. Every student has at least one piece in the show. Parent volunteers help mount student artwork, and supervise activities. This night has expanded to include the Spring Picnic with the ever popular cake walk and DJ.

  • PCS Garden

In spring 2009, the PCS Garden sprang to life thanks to the help of parents, students and teachers. In it's first season the garden thrived and the garden club was able to participate in selling their crop at a market stand at Whole Foods

  • Year End Celebration

An all-school Lemon Ice Social welcomes summer and thanks the teachers and students for a great year. Parent volunteers scoop the ice.
